View Full Version : What is your dream VW?
Right, just out of curiosity, what would be your dream VW, not the one you own, but the one you'd love to own.
You can either chose a model, say a Hebmüller for example, or a particular car that you see or have seen at a show or in the magazine.
I'm interested to hear what car 'does it' for you.
I'll start the ball rolling and say that I have always fancied a 2-door VW Brasilia.

Mine would have to be a Zwitter. I love the odd ball VW and transitions between various stages of the overall evolution. I currently have a 1959 model beetle, with the 1960s dash but semaphores and small rear lenses, but a Zwitter would be a dream to own.:)
Love the forum:D

I do quite fancy a Trekker - I love the look of the VW Heritage Remtec Trekker.
I love the simplicity of them, and having the ability to pop the doors off and fold the screen down - instant beach buggy !
I also love how it borrows parts of beetles and campers,
It just works !
All the best,
Jim

Good choice! But then a '59 is a cool year. Why not post a photo of your car so we can see what you're talking about?
Glad you like the forum. It's early days, but it's been a long time coming.

Trekker's are mad cars - I can remember driving one down Guildford High Street with the doors off and the screen folded down. Made my eyes stream, but boy do people ever look at them...With a sort of 'what the hell is that?' look on their faces.
Mind you driving a Nova - you must get that already! No?

I'll get some photos posted later this week. Could you help with my query on fron wings (see separate post)
I loved the feature on the stock 58 in the latest issue, and have been following with interest the rebuild on pre67. Lets hope a few more stock VW's are being restored for future features. Nigel Wallace (of Historic VW club) has an amazing unrestored 1960 which was at the NEC last year.

One that works :D (my '71 microbus broke a valve on the weekend, and is my daily driver so I'm not doing the usual 100 mile trips (each way) this week :( )
my dream car would be a stock looking US '67 spec bug, but RHD and with a huge T4 engine in the back, and the brakes and gearbox to go with it. It would need to be stock height and have stock (steel) wheels, possibly banded.

I'm actually quite content with my '61 Bug now it's all legal but if I had to think of another VW I'd like to own, it would have to be an early squareback slammed on the deck wearing Porsche Fuchs with a big motor shoved in for good measure.
Jon, Jon, Jon... You're not supposed to give it all that 'I'm actually quite content with my '61 Bug' nonsense, I said NOT the car you own, but you just can't help mentioning it can you?

A 1968-72 1300 or 1500 model beetle with an almost totally stock appearance bar some subtle 5.5" stock style steel wheels would be my dream VW.
With a twist though, including a period looking hi performance small capacity engine, upgraded brakes, upgraded suspension, upgraded gearbox etc. I think that'd be a good recipe for a subtle and fun to drive sleeper.

Ah the old dream VW chestnut. I've always loved Beetle cabriolets, the earlier the better really. Perhaps a mint Oval era cab in silver.
I do miss my old cab :(
If I can;t post mine the this ;)

I've got a list rather than one.
But my dream is getting my 63 bus so it's usable as a daily... even if that means going for an alternative engine... although, call me old fashioned, I would like to stick with a VW Ag engine (rather than a Scooby).
In fact my Audi may end up being the donor.

My dream vw is parked up in our garage-my '72 resto-cal!
But....
I would love a '68-70 Karmann kab bug. I'd give it the full resto-cal treatment! :p

There's a whole load I'd love to own, but if I had to choose I think I'd go for an original late 60s/early 70s era Gasser Beetle. My dreams of winning the lottery when Simon Emery had L'il Snort up for sale unfortunately never came true :(. Other than that maybe an early bay crew cab, Porsche silver paintwork, red leather trim, Porsche brakes with original detailed Fuchs and a good old 911 6 cylinder hooked up to a 5 speed box would do me just fine. Or at the other end of the power scale I wouldn't say no to an unmolested split window with 1131cc engine, cable brakes and crash box!

Good point Ivan, yes we do get lots of looks, thumbs up, and smiles.
Brighton Breeze was a great example of this with a fair few confused faces at Epsom, and a couple of ............' why are you here, it isn't a VW!'
The crowds at Brighton really seemed to like it though, and many were truly surprised it was a beetle underneath !
We have only had the car on road since April, and always get a great reaction which makes it all worth it. At Brighton one guy tried to convince my other half, Sarah, that it was a GT40 replica, whilst a small child told me it was the Pink Pather's car !!
All the best,
Jim

An early bay with a Westy interior but a Dormobile roof (like the space and the stripes :D ) with a TDi conversion - possibly even one of the new Subaru flat 4 tdi's. Not too shiny so I can use it.
Style, space, economy be wonderful!

Can I have 2?
I would have a Cobalt blue 1302, with a turbo'd type 4 motor, big brakes, upgraded suspension all the usual, with 7 and 8 inch wide O.E. wheels for the sleeper look.:D
and then for a sunday cruise, I would have an early fastback on Gasburners, not too bothered what colour though:)

There are so many VW's that I'd love to own. Don't get me wrong I love my 72, but something of a little more vintage would do the trick! I Can't decide to be fair. Maybe a Lowlight Ghia on sprintstars, or a 67 on BRMs. I suppose I would love a Split bug and even a low indicator Bay panel or even a Split panel. As you can see I can't decide, but I do know one thing. I would want it to be a Porsche beater!!!!
