Hi all,

Cool new forums.

Bit of a marmite car this one, but has been well received at a good few VW shows this year

Cheers all,

The colour was a real hard choice - I wanted something reminiscent of the 70's without being to old school. It is actually a limitted edition new beetle colour.

The wheels were also a labour of love - they were severely oxidised and badly painted and needed a lot of time to get them back, but I thought they had to stay with the car.

Cheers for the feedback,

Jim

Even now they still look so futuristic, and for an old kit they really haven't dated like alof of the sports kits. Nice ride, well done.

THis looks really good, a pat on the back is well deserved, with kits its the finish to the interior that lets them down, yours has been done to a high standard, I hope to see it at a show next year to have a proper look around.

Cheers all for the kind comments

It is a smiles car to drive - everyone stops and looks.

I am glad people recognize the work that has gone into it - I wanted a Nova to be proud of, and that kit car, VW fans and petrol heads alike would enjoy

It even inspired one of our IT guys at work to draw it today

Hi Jim, brilliant car  I've always loved Novas I bet you've had to tell a few people it's not a Vauxhall when you say you drive a Nova though  :D
How did you get your wheels looking so good did you do it yourself or a pro refurb also what do you use to stop them re-oxidizing ? I've got some Riviera's for my Bug and if I can get them looking anything like yours I'll be well pleased. Cheers Nick.

Ah, the wheels, well that was a labour of love - it would have been easier, and cheaper to buy new, but the Nova came with them, and I wanted to keep her original (even have a matching spare).

Firstly I lost my fingerprints by hand sanding the oxidised parts with fine wet and dry. I generally sat on the back step of the house with a bucket of soapy water and a sponge and lots of fine wet & dry an hour a night for around a month - yes really.

Then I started to polish them with compound and buffing attachments on dreels, drills etc.

I then took them to a professional to do the dinal polish, and they bead blasted the backs and slots ot clean them up for paint.

The paint shop then acid etched the backs and slots and painted these areas - makes keeping the backs clean a lot easier.

Each timeI polish the car I use a product from Halfords that is designed to leave a wax coating on the wheels - green bottle with trigger - it seems to work, we are one season in and they still look good - mind you I don't do much driving in winter with the road salt etc.

Hope this helps,

That is one sweet looking kit. So many just look like they have been thrown together but l can tell yours is a real labour of love. Looking forward to seeing it at the shows next year. Well lets face it unlike us bus owners your going to be very easy to spot :) oh yes and l love the interior ventilation system.

Hi Jim, thanks for the info I'm at the wet and dry stage now so I just need to keep going, and a few more stages then. I'm looking forward to seeing your car at a show next year.
Cheers Nick.

Cheers for posting the photos - did well to catch us wioth the roof up - boy did it rain at the SDBC meet !

Re the engine question above, I have kept it simple as the car is only a summer fun hing, 1641 Remtec with 32/36 Weber and electronic ignition. We did Newark kit cat show this year - Worthing to Nottingham in 4 hours and between 32 and 37 to the gallon.

I do however have an 1800 pancake lump in the garage that is due a tickle !

I must admit i am in the love it camp!
I toyed with the idea of buying one a few years ago but decided parts would be too hard to find.
Incidently there is a canopy ram thing on Ebay at the mo.

So how many people have actually seen Death Race 2000!?!

Hi all,

Thought it was time for an update on 'Nena the Nova' and our exploits

New interior went in early this year, via Whiffs trimming

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2478/3649836649_33557e11c7_b.jpg

We laughed out loud when Lotus Exiges in the queue for Goodwood Breakfast Club 'Supercar Sunday' were turned away, as we were beckoned in and parked on the start line

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3417/3608594100_14f4d47ddd_b.jpg

The car got loads of interest

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3386/3607724049_0441aea4aa_b.jpg

We didn't make it into the Volksworld show, but have frequented many kit car shows, most recently Newark, where we also saw a number of sweet buggies. Club Nova (See much more at my blog site http://jimsvwnovarestoration.blogspot.com/ and Club Nova/Avante & euronova at http://www.euro-nova.co.uk/) put on a great display
