Is this bug watercooled or is that a factory fitted grille under the front bumper? Can't believe I'm actually looking at the car! :p

our's has the same, it's a stock grill for cars that (may?) have had air-conditioning.

Yeah its for Aircon fitted strutbugs:)

four more questions.
1.did all strut beetles for the usa have aircon?
2.or did all strut beetles destined for the usa have slots, ie. a common shell regardless of whether aircon was fitted or not?
3.does it's presence mean that the car originally had aircon?
4. is the airflow into it big enough for a t3 wasserboxer engine?

Firstly, may I say what a wonderful picture that is. In fact, I'm going to post it again....

Now we've got that out of the way.....

1. No, it was optional (I doubt there'd be much call for it in Alaska.....)
2. Yes, as far as I know.
3. No - see answer to number 2.
4. Doubtful. It's only designed for the airflow for a small heat exchanger for the air compressor. A T3 Boxer is going to need a much bigger radiator. It might work with further ducting below though - Anything's possible.
