Hey all,

Have you all seen the Beetle you could win at the VolksWorld show 2009?
Basically we bought it a good few months ago now with the intention of doing it up and giving it away at the show next March.
Neil, our Art department manager, has been given the task of finishing it and we've agreed that if he doesn't we're gonna fire him :D

I think he's doing a grand job personally ;)

Anyway what we want to know is what would you do, or rather what should we do, to the Beetle before we give it away? lower it? Put new wheels on it? New brakes? Narrowed beam? Big engine?
Or should we keep it a bone stocker?

What do you reckon?

Answers below!

Oh and if you fancy you can answer the poll above too - Will Neil get it finished in time for the VolksWorld Show 2009 (http://www.volksworld.com/vwshow.html)?

As I am desperate for a car, any car, I personally don't mind what Neil does to it - as long as he makes sure that I win it!!!!:clap::clap:

I think you should keep it a bone stocker! then whoever wins can either drive as is or have a fresh blank canvas to work on! Either way you can't go wrong!

what about give it away as a stocker? and the winner can decide on a lowering job and a motor? ;)

I'd only contemplate keeping it a bone stocker if it were a 50's or early 60's bug.
I would love to see it go the same way as the bug attached in this picture from VW08 (below) I think lowered (up to you how much), possibly narrowed, stock interior, some nice detailed rims, four stud Mahles' or 2 litres' maybe, and a stainless exhaust, as we all know how **** it is having to heat paint a metal one!!!
Maybe keep the engine 1600 for insurance purposes as you don't know who will win it, may only be 17????
Or a hot 1776cc would go nicely if the 'box is still the original AS code!!!!:cool::clap::D

I think restore the car to stock so keep the exterior Orange and the interior seats, upholstery etc stock too.

Keep the ride height stock as well, then fit some nice OG 4 stud Sprintstars 5.5 out back and 4.5 on the front with some nice chunky profile tyres. 145/80/15 front and 195/65/15 rears?

Then a pair of spots with checker covers, and a Big Bore 4 into 1 header and Single Glasspack exhaust painted/powdercoated White to give the car a usable and cool Retro Racer stylee harking back to the pre-rake Cal Look cars of old!

Maybe fit a period style wood rim steering wheel and/or Formula Vee interior goodies?

I think that would give an eye catching, mildly custom bug that anyone could use daily yet still be affordable to run and insure plus it would be different to the current trends out there today!

Alex.

I agree with those who say it should be a blank canvas ....and not just because I like stockers:p

I think I would agree with keeping it stock and let the winner decide what to do with it.

I quite like the idea of turning it into a German Looker and make it able to go round corners fast:thumbs:

OK. The bug could be won by anyone of any age or mechanical experience. I would keep it mechanically stock so that the winner can afford to insure it and it will be easy to maintain. :)

As it's a seventies bug I would load it up with 70s accessories, add a set of polished slot mags, lower the front a little and keep the orange paint. Some nice metalflake, overlapping stripes in seventies stylee would look ace if the budget will stretch. This will end up as a mild but very coool custom bug that anyone would be proud of.:cool::cool::cool::thumbs:

baja it:D

seriously, if i won it with a narrowed or lowered front axle, i'd immediately have to change those things

*slam it!*

If it's slammed then whatever else is done with it will still look cool. You could even leave the rest of it as it is and it would still look awesome if it was slammed. Though personally I would be getting some centerlines on it...

Have you considered a whaletail? :D:D:D

(sorry Tim)

Leave it stock and then, as has been said previously, the lucky winner can decide what to do with it:thumbs:

garf, is that for the whale tail or the slamming?:D

whichever, we can't all have the same taste, and you're a refreshing alternative:thumbs::p

OK Jon. To recap. It's got to be a slammed, bone stock full custom, with a baja kit, a hot small motor, buggy wheels on the back, centrelines, slots, sprints or Mahles on the front, orange paint with metalflake stripes and a whale tail. Oh, and some spot lights with checkered covers

I'm starting to change my mind about the car being ready in time! :D:D:D

Keep it stock, the person who wins it should be grateful how ever it is!
I am sure!
Looks good how it is IMO.

Ohh btw I think its funny your gonna fire him if it isn't finished in time! Good Luck to him! :)

I say keep it stock too (although maybe with dropped spindles) and I quite like the idea of a few period accessories, I've got a nice Formula Vee steering wheel here that'd look good ;).

It was for the whaletail but thinking about it now, you would probably prefer the whaletail over the tarmac scraping Mr Sky High Six Springs :)

garf, i think that it's more likely to get baja'd than have a whale tail fitted.
have you still got your one - you should fit it:thumbs:

Still got Baja kit but if you mean whaletail, afraid I donated it to the Jagerbug project and seem to remember it sold quite quick

You never know..... didn't do much for the Escort Cosworth, but with a nice light buggy he might get an extra bit of lift :cool::thumbs::clap:

8" widened, adjustable front beam, porsche or bus rear cvs for the extra travel the adjustable spring plates will allow, leave the wings off, chop the front and back off and when I win it I can just bolt a baja kit straight on there.. :D

Seriously though I'd leave it stock, blank canvas etc.

Stock is the new custom - keep it stock!

(and then it would make a perfect daily driver for my wife when I win it.....)

Stocker! And if someone wants to fiddle with it, they have a blank canvas, so to speak:)

I would go for stock, but perhaps with some period 70's wheels.

Personally it should be Stock Paint, Stock Interior, Slammed on Big Wheels and a mild tuned motor. That way it will suit everybody. Stock fans can easily reinstate the original ride height and steel wheels, but the 'bling' can give it that extra showcar quality at little cost. ...although if I won it, I'd take it anyway you want to build it !

retroboy
13-12-2008, 11:19 PM
I'd take it any way if i won it, but....

2-3" drop up front, 1 spline out back, & a set of Riviera's. Keep the rest.

gomorley
14-12-2008, 11:42 AM
I wouldn't mind what ever you'd done if I won,
I'm thinking that it may already be mine:confused:

not quite so.
a lowered beam at it's highest setting will click down to it's lowest level after a big enough jump.
trust me;):D
